Absorption Systems' ex vivo tissue permeability offers unique capabilities to develop mechanistic models to assess drug permeability and absorption.
Alternative dose routes and/or formulations may be a significant consideration for life cycle management and product value enhancement. Ex vivo permeability models are ideal for evaluating new formulations of drugs post-marketing and for determining the feasibility of other delivery routes. Another application, specifically for intestinal tissue, is to evaluate regional absorption by measuring the permeability of a compound across intestinal mucosa from the stomach and different segments of the intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon). This can be used for determining if a sustained release or modified release formulation is feasible. Many of these models offer the unique advantage of assessing human tissue, eliminating concerns related to species differences.
