Formulation Development

Enhance the Compound Exposure and Decrease the Toxic Effect

Preclinical formulation development is often times a challenging field for molecules possessing poor aqueous solubility. Using an appropriate excipient, cosolvent, surfactant, or a combination of all, could maximize the exposure of a given compound.

Absorption Systems has years of practical experience developing formulations and assessing their impact on the exposure of compounds through pharmacokinetic studies. Our formulation development expertise includes both oral and parenteral formulations. Certain compounds present specific challenges such as low bioavailability, poor solubility and/or permeability and poor physical stability. Our formulation development experience can be helpful in overcoming many of these obstacles.

We take a rational, scientific and data-driven approach to give your compound the best chance at success. The dose vehicles that can be used are often dependent on the animal species, the dose level, the route of administration, and the frequency of the doses, as a variation of any could induce toxicity in the body.

Studies have shown that having the right formulation could not only decrease the toxic effect, if any, but also enhance the exposure of the compound.
